Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He defended 4 initial opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
