Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
